Winslows population: 9,520 residents (2000)
Elevation: 4,850 feet Average daily maximum temperature is 70.6 F degrees. Average daily minimum temperature is 39.9 F degrees. Established in 1880 Incorporated in 1900
Winslow was the largest city in northern Arizona during its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s. Charles Lindbergh designed an airport there that became a major stop between Los Angeles and Chicago. During those years, it was the busiest airport in the state.
Winslow was probably named for General Edward Winslow, a railroad executive, although a prospector near Mayer named Tom Winslow later claimed the honor. Winslow remains the Arizona headquarters for the Santa Fe Railroad. The... Read more >>
